Apple iPhone 15 – The zoom camera performs admirably during testing
There are no groundbreaking innovations in the 15th generation of the iPhone, but there are some minor changes that improve the iPhone 15. Firstly, the addition of the 2x telephoto zoom camera provides more flexibility in picture composition. While it doesn't equal the 5x optical zoom of the Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max, it's a step in the right direction. Additionally, thanks to pixel binning, users now have more options for photo size options: whether it's a 12-, 24-, or 48-MP snap, the choice is yours.
Furthermore, the iPhone 15 now features Dynamic Island, where the notch for the front camera and Face ID sensors moves slightly towards the center of the screen and expands to display content in case of notifications. This feature was previously exclusive to the Pro models.
Apple didn't introduce the new USB-C connector voluntarily; it was mandated by the EU. Nevertheless, it's a significant addition to the iPhone, allowing users to charge their MacBook, iPad, and iPhone using the same cable. Since most other technical devices now also use USB-C, it offers the possibility to use a wide range of accessories with the smartphone.
However, the iPhone 15 remains quite traditional in certain aspects. For instance, it does not support 6 GHz WLAN networks, which operate in a less congested frequency range, making them less susceptible to interference and potentially faster. Additionally, Apple provides only a 60 Hz screen, although it can be very bright and offers accurate color representation. The USB-C port supports only USB 2.0 speed, but it does have a display port function, allowing external screens to be connected to the iPhone 15.
