iOS 17.2 improves the telephoto camera of the iPhone 15 Pro, adds Qi2 to iPhone 13 and iPhone 14
In September, Apple confirmed that the iPhone 15 would be the first smartphone in the world to support Qi2. Via the iOS 17.2 release candidate, Apple has just confirmed that the upcoming operating system update will extend Qi2 compatibility to all models in the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 series.
For users, this ultimately means that they can charge their iPhone on Qi2 chargers with 15 watts instead of the previous 7.5 watts. This eliminates the need for the expensive MagSafe certification, meaning that corresponding chargers can be offered at lower prices. As Qi2 will also be supported by Android smartphones in future, households with iPhones and Android devices will be able to use the same charger for all devices without compromising on performance.
iOS 17.2 also unlocks spatial video recording on iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, allowing 3D videos to be recorded that can later be viewed on the Vision Pro mixed reality headset. The telephoto cameras of the two top models will reportedly have faster focus capabilities than before with iOS 17.2.
The operating system update, which will be available for all users of compatible iPhones in the next few days, also introduces Apple's brand new Journal app, allows the Action Button to be used to start a translation, and provides the Weather app with an interactive lunar calendar and new widgets. Lastly, health data can now be queried and entered via Siri.
