Signify has announced a new SpaceSense feature for WiZ smart home lighting. The tool enables the lights to be triggered when motion is detected, which the company claims is a “never-before-seen innovation in the consumer lighting industry”. The feature uses Wi-Fi sensing technology, monitoring for disturbances in the signals which indicate movement. This enables motion detection without a line of sight or the need to install separate sensors.
It is worth noting that you need at least two lights in a room to use this tool. You can adjust the system’s sensitivity settings in the app to allow for things like pets moving around at night. SpaceSense is one of several features in the new WiZ app V2, which also has an improved user interface. The new Quick Action tool allows you to choose your one-tap actions in the app and switch frequently used objects on or off. Plus, Light Scene management will enable you to save bespoke color and brightness combinations, which you can trigger in the app or with voice commands.
The WiZ app V2, including SpaceSense, will launch later this month. The company has confirmed that the update will be compatible with most of its products released in the last 12 months, alongside Philips Smart LED lights. However, the SpaceSense feature is not supported by Philips Hue lights.
