Vivo says Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and Dimensity 9400 will deliver a massive generational performance leap

Qualcomm will formally launch the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 in the Snapdragon Summit event set for October 21, and the Xiaomi 15 series is expected to be one of the first lineups to feature this next-gen SoC. MediaTek, on the other hand, will be announcing its Dimensity 9400 a bit earlier, on October 9, and the Vivo X200 series will be among the first to pack it.

While there have already been many reports about the performance of these two new SoCs, Vivo's product manager, Han Boxiao, has shared some additional insight. Han shares that he has experience with 12 generations of mobile SoCs. So far, the Vivo official has seen a performance leap of around 15% from generation to generation.

Of course, Han mentions he has seen about a 25% performance boost but notes that it's a rare case. As for the next-gen Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and Dimensity 9400, the Vivo official says that the generational performance boost is more than 40%, and it's the highest that Han has ever seen.

Han further explains that this level of performance leap is about the same as you would get from two typical generational upgrades. The Vivo official adds that the two next-gen flagship SoCs will create a very noticeable gap between mid-range smartphones, which is something that doesn't happen often.

With this, the Vivo official says that flagship phones released in October and after will be worth upgrading to. However, Han Boxiao didn't share any concrete details on the price increase the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and Dimensity 9400 smartphones will see.

Per recent reports, both flagship SoCs have seen around 20% price bumps due to the expensive nature of the N3E process. Worth noting that the Dimensity 9400 is said to be cheaper than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, which can make the phones with MediaTek's next-gen SoC a little more affordable than the ones with Qualcomm's new flagship chip.
