Verizon’s new kid-friendly smartwatch now available for free, but there’s a catch

Verizon has launched the new kid-friendly smartwatch, the Gizmo Watch 4, in the US. Designed to give parents peace of mind, the smartwatch features a plastic case paired with a silicon band. The Gizmo Watch 4 from Verizon is equipped with a 1.64-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 320 x 360 pixels and a refresh rate of 60 Hz. There’s Corning Gorilla Glass III protection on top with oDLC scratch resistance.

The case is 5 ATM certified, and the brand claims that kids can use the smartwatch in the swimming pool without worrying about hardware damage. Unlike adult smartwatches, which focus heavily on fitness and health tracking features, this kid-focused watch only comes with an activity tracker, allowing kids to track their daily steps. 

Furthermore, it’s powered by a Qualcomm SW5100 processor paired with 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage. The wearable runs Android 11 out of the box and has Gizmo AI voice assistant support. Under the hood, it packs a decent 530 mAh battery, which is said to offer up to three days of battery life on a single charge. Interestingly, the new Verizon watch supports wireless charging. 

Parents can easily track the watch location, set safe zones, and manage trusted contacts and safety and wellness features directly from the Verizon Family app, available for both Android and iOS. Despite being a kid-friendly watch, the device doesn't come cheap. Speaking more precisely, the watch is priced at $179.99. You can snag the watch completely free, but there’s a catch. You have to opt for a 36-month payment plan with the new watch line, which costs $10 a month plus taxes and fees. It’s worth noting that this offer lasts until September 3, 2026. Available in pistachio pink and dusk blue colorways, buyers can now purchase the smartwatch via Verizon’s official website.
