Unlike the thicker, cheaper and more budget-oriented MSI GP, GF or GL series, the MSI GS series is home to the company's flagship ultrathin gaming models akin to the Razer Blade series. Such models always retail for high prices at launch, but this deal is the cheapest yet for one of MSI's most visually appealing gaming laptops.

If you haven't pulled the trigger on the recent $1200 Asus Zephyrus G14 deal yet, then this $1200 MSI GS66 sale might be even more tempting. The flagship MSI laptop is now in the same price range as most other gaming laptops with the same mobile GeForce RTX 2060 GPU albeit in a sleeker, thinner, and more portable chassis design. Previously, interested buyers would have to pay higher premiums for the GS66 just for its slimmer and more attractive look.

When compared to the last generation GS65, the current generation GS66 is a complete update from the ground up to address some of the issues on the older GS65. Chassis rigidity, for example, is firmer on the newer model and cooling has improved as well. The configuration in question doesn't skimp on RAM, storage or display refresh rate either unlike many other gaming laptop deals. Nonetheless, we can't confirm if the laptop is using a high quality 144 Hz panel or one of the cheap Panda ones without testing the configuration ourselves.

A notable drawback to the system is its loud fan noise, but this disadvantage is shared between all super-thin gaming laptops, anyway. We're also not fans of the new keyboard as both travel and feedback feel lighter than on the older GS65 keyboard.
