Ubisoft internal town hall misses the mark, fuels further uncertainty

Following studio closures, canceled projects and tensions over the return-to-office policy, uncertainty has been growing among Ubisoft employees. The Ubisoft internal town hall was intended to address concerns and boost morale through a Q&A session. However, Insider Gaming reports that it had the opposite effect.
According to industry insider Tom Henderson, more than a dozen current and former Ubisoft employees spoke anonymously about the tone, content and handling of the event. Insider Gaming also obtained a full audio recording of the meeting. Employees were able to submit questions and vote on them, with the most popular ones scheduled to be addressed during the session. However, many of these questions were reportedly answered only vaguely or in broad terms.
One of the main concerns among staff is the prospect of job cuts. Rumors suggest Ubisoft may be preparing to lay off more than 2,000 employees. Management has remained vague, saying only that the workforce needs to be “significantly lower” by March 2026. For many, this lack of clarity has only deepened fears about their future at the company.
Ubisoft’s management has acknowledged shortcomings in internal communication, admitting that employees often learned key information through media reports rather than directly from the company. Going forward, they plan to share press releases internally at the same time they go public. For many staff members, however, this promise feels like too little, too late. According to Insider Gaming, the event ultimately failed to build trust in the company’s future direction.
Office presence: Ubisoft stands firm
The issue of office attendance was addressed directly. Ubisoft offered no concrete data to support claims that in-office work increases productivity. Instead, management pointed to other companies such as Riot Games and Rockstar Games, where five-day office weeks are standard practice. Requests for a four-day office presence were firmly dismissed, with details on potential exceptions postponed until summer.
Community sees Ubisoft’s future at risk
Reports about the internal town hall quickly made their way to Reddit, where the overwhelming majority of users voiced frustration with Ubisoft’s leadership. Many are now openly questioning the company’s future, speculating about potential sell-offs or a possible breakup of the company.
