Deal | Turn-based tactics in the Wild West – under $6 on Steam for the first time

In Hard West 2, players lead a gang of supernatural outlaws through a twisted version of the Wild West, where occultism, demonic forces and the undead are part of everyday life. At the center of the story is the pursuit of the “Ghost Train,” a cursed, soul-stealing locomotive that leaves destruction in its wake. Each member of the gang, from gunslinger Gin Carter to the undead Old Man Bill, brings unique abilities that must be strategically combined in combat.

In terms of gameplay, Hard West 2 draws clear inspiration from genre staples like XCOM 2, offering turn-based tactics from an isometric perspective. However, it carves out its own identity with unique mechanics, most notably the Bravado system. This core feature resets a character’s action points after each kill, encouraging an aggressive playstyle that rewards smart planning and bold decisions. But the same risks that lead to victory can just as easily result in a character’s untimely death.

The editors at German gaming magazine PC Games praised Hard West 2 for its solid turn-based tactics, highlighting the Bravado system as one of the game’s standout features. Its atmospheric world and distinctive characters were also noted positively. Criticism, however, focused on balancing issues and level design. Nevertheless, the game earned a respectable score of 7 out of 10. The Steam community has been slightly more generous, with 81% of more than 2,900 user reviews being positive. On Metacritic, Hard West 2 currently holds a Metascore of 77 and a User Score of 7.3.

80% off on Steam for the first time

Hard West 2 was developed by Polish studio Ice Code Games and released in August 2022 by Good Shepherd Entertainment. The game is normally priced at around $30 on Steam, but is currently available at an 80% discount, dropping the price to just under $6. The offer runs until February 19. According to SteamDB, previous discounts typically capped at 70%, making this the lowest price to date. However, handheld players are out of luck: Hard West 2 is marked as “Unsupported” on the Steam Deck (currently listed on Amazon for around $660).
