Deal | Movie adaptation of popular indie title hits theaters – game reaches all-time low on Steam

Iron Lung is an indie horror game released in 2022 that is currently enjoying renewed attention – not because of a new update, but due to a movie adaptation. American YouTuber Markiplier, a long-time fan of the game, was so taken with it that he created a film version himself, even starring in the lead role. While critical reception has been mixed, early reports suggest the movie is performing surprisingly well at the box office. For those who have not yet played the game, now may be an ideal time – Iron Lung is currently available on Steam at a steep discount.
The game traps players inside a claustrophobic one-man submarine, drifting through a sea of blood with zero visibility. There is no window to the outside – navigation relies instead on crude instruments, grainy black-and-white photographs, and the unsettling creaks of the hull. The objective is to follow a set of coordinates, photograph mysterious structures, and guide the fragile sub through the depths as carefully as possible. Iron Lung’s horror does not depend on cheap jumpscares. Instead, it builds tension through isolation, a dense atmosphere, and the constant fear that something might be lurking just beyond the sonar. The indie title has earned more than 9,000 reviews on Steam, with an impressive 91% rated positive.
The film builds on the game’s core concept, expanding it with a more clearly defined narrative. Markiplier, whose real name is Mark Edward Fischbach, stars as a condemned prisoner sent on a perilous mission in service of a dying humanity. Trapped inside a decaying submarine, he is tasked with exploring an alien sea of blood on an unknown moon in search of vital resources or signs of survival. If that premise sparks your interest, playing the game beforehand offers a compelling way to immerse yourself in the world before experiencing its cinematic counterpart.
Iron Lung now at half price on Steam for the first time
Iron Lung usually costs around $8 on Steam, but it’s currently available at a 50% discount for just $3.99 – the lowest price yet, according to SteamDB. Those interested should note that the deal expires on February 6. The game is also marked as “Playable” on the Steam Deck (currently priced at $580 on Amazon), making it a solid option for handheld horror fans.
