Twitch has unbanned Donald Trump's account, says "there is value in hearing from Presidential nominees directly"
The status of Donald Trump's Twitch channel, which was banned in 2021, was reverted earlier today. @StreamerBans' X account posted the update, following which, TheGamer received the following statement from Twitch:
"We reinstated former President Trump’s Twitch channel. We believe there is value in hearing from Presidential nominees directly, when possible. Trump is now the official Republican nominee for US president."
The company further added that they will continue to enforce their Community Guidelines and take necessary action when they identify violations of their rules. The company laid extra focus on its lack of a 'public figure policy', implying that all channels on the platform are equally subject to Twitch guidelines, regardless of whether it's a public figure's channel or not.
The former U.S. president was banned following the infamous incident in January 2021, where Trump's supporters raided the Capitol Building. A total of nine people lost their lives during the incident. Social media played a key role in globally broadcasting the images and videos from the incident. Notably, Twitch wasn't the only platform to take action against Donald Trump - Facebook and YouTube also took his account down when the events concurred.
