Trust hypes its new GXT 258W Fyru USB mic as an ideal companion to the PlayStation 5 (PS5), which is just as well given how well it matches the console in the style of its plastic stand and legs. It also incorporates accLEDs that can cycle between up to 5 different colors.
In terms of its actual internals, it gives the impression of being even more versatile. It is rated for 4 of the most familiar audio-capture modes used today, which means it can be either cardioid, stereo, omni-directional or bi-directional. Trust also asserts that it can use a recording sampling rate of 48 kilohertz (kHz), and has a frequency range of 30-18000Hz.
Therefore, the OEM pitches it as a peripheral that would go as well with music recording or podcasting as it would with a console set-up. For those who would prefer a more conventionally professional look in their USB mic, however, there is also the Trust GXT 241 Velica.
This new accessory has a compact form-factor, although its pop filter is fixed externally whereas that of the Fyru is integrated and distributed across each of its 3 internal mics. The Velica is also simply cardioid as opposed to multi-mode.
Then again, it is also rated for stability and reliability during recording thanks to its stick-leg tripod. It also has a relatively long 1.8 meter (m) USB cable. Trust has just launched the GXT 241 Velica and GXT 258W Fyru on Amazon.co.uk for £49 and £119, and are also available on Amazon.de for €58 and €125 (in black as well as white in that case), respectively.
The Fyru and Velica are yet to become available on the US market; however, Trust's GXT 232 Mantis mic for streaming and gaming is listed for US$68 in the meantime (all prices correct at time of writing).
