"Thinnest and lightest" Dell Pro Precision 5 14S and Pro Precision 16S mobile workstations debut

For folks who need more performance than a typical thin-and-light multimedia laptop but don’t want to lug around a heavy and bulky workstation notebook, Dell has launched the Pro Precision 5 14S and Pro Precision 5 16S mobile workstations. Both laptops come with the latest Intel Core Ultra 300 Panther Lake or AMD Ryzen AI 400 Gorgon Point APUs, a good port selection, and the advantage of powerful iGPUs.
The most obvious selling point of the Dell Pro Precision 5 14S and the Pro Precision 5 16S is their footprint. Dell claims that the Pro Precision 5 14S is the company’s thinnest and lightest mobile workstation with H-series mobile processors. As such, the laptop starts at just 1.4 kg (3.1 lbs.). This is quite impressive, as this weight puts the 14-inch Dell Pro Precision 5 14S in the same range as many thin-and-light multimedia laptops.
As mentioned above, both the Dell Pro Precision 5 14S and the Pro Precision 5 16S can be had with either the Core Ultra 300 Panther Lake or Ryzen AI 400 Gorgon Point APUs. High-end SKUs of the Pro Precision 5 14S/16S can, therefore, be had with the excellent 12 Xe core Intel Panther Lake Arc B390 iGPU. Since the Ryzen AI 400 Gorgon Point APUs still top out at the last-gen Radeon 890M iGPU, folks who want the best graphics performance will have to choose the Pro Precision 5 14S/16S with an Intel Panther Lake APU.
For RAM, the Pro Precision 5 14S/16S features up to 64 GB of 8,533 MT/s of LPCAMM2 memory. On paper, the LPCAMM2 memory is user-replaceable. However, LPCAMM2 hasn’t yet taken off, so finding aftermarket modules can be difficult.
Finally, the Dell Pro Precision 5 14S/Pro Precision 5 16S features a metal body incorporating a backlit keyboard, a fingerprint reader, and a decent port selection. In the case of the Pro Precision 5 16S, we are looking at:
- An HDMI port
- Two USB Type-A ports
- Two USB Type-C ports
- An Ethernet jack
- A 3.5 mm audio port
There is no full-sized SD or microSD card reader. So, if Dell doesn’t supply a Type-C dongle in the box, you’ll have to get one from Amazon.
The Dell Pro Precision 5 14S and Pro Precision 5 16S will be available in May. Dell hasn’t shared any pricing details yet.
