Nokia has a launch event scheduled for December 4 in Dubai. Until now, word on the grapevine has claimed that, of the lineup of devices billed to be the unveiled, the Nokia 8.1 and the Nokia 9 Pureview would be the biggest items on the list. Sadly, it would appear that the reality of the matter will be different come December 4, with the Finnish company said to have postponed the launch of the Nokia 9 Pureview.
The Nokia 9 Pureview will be the biggest Nokia launch since the brand re-entered the smartphone market last year. The flagship is billed to feature five rear cameras, which would be a shocking move in an era when flagships are only just set to make the move up to three rear cameras.
The flagship was supposed to have been launched months ago but the company reportedly pushed it back. We’re not sure how smart that move will prove to be, though. For one, Qualcomm is set to unveil its new Snapdragon 8150 on December 5, which would make the current Snapdragon 845 mostly obsolete. With the Nokia 9’s launch being pushed even further back, that would mean it’s released with the Snapdragon 845 in a period when Snapdragon 8150-powered flagships linger on the horizon, making it DOA for the most part.
The decision is said to have been made by HMD Global's Chief Product Officer, Juho Sarvikas, and could perhaps be as a result of kinks that have to be worked out in the device. You’d do well to take that with a pinch of salt, though.
