Purported Nokia 9 renders emerge, show bezel-less design
Purported renders of the Nokia 9 have emerged in China. The design shown in the renders seems plausible enough, continuing the current trend towards smartphones with bezel-less designs. It is reminiscent of the Samsung Galaxy 8 with its curved front glass and curved rear edges although the vertical dual rear camera array and finger print sensor have been placed in more logical and user-friendly locations. Its rumored AMOLED display is thought to measure between 5.5- and 5.9-inches diagonally.
The Nokia 9 will sit above the current flagship device from HMD Global, the recently released 5.3-inch Nokia 8. The Nokia 8 is shipping with the current high-end Android chipset of choice in the form of the Snapdragon 835, matched with 4GB of RAM. With indications that the rumored Snapdragon 836 is not coming this year, it is no surprise that a device registering as the Nokia 9 recently hit GFXBench with the same chipset and RAM combination. In addition to the larger display and narrower bezels, the Nokia 9 will also differentiate itself from the Nokia 8 by incorporating water and dust resistance into its design.
The rebirth of the Nokia brand under HMD Global has also seen the company release all its devices running a stock version of Android, which is favored by enthusiasts. Already having committed to delivering an Android 8.0 Oreo upgrade to its existing handsets, the Nokia 9 will be the first from HMD Global set to ship with Oreo out of the box.
