The original inspiration behind Apple’s foldable iPhone - Huawei Pura X Max first look

While the tech world keeps a close eye on the leaked Galaxy Wide Fold and iPhone Ultra (or iPhone Fold), a new leak suggests that Huawei is ready to share the spotlight with Samsung and Apple. A fresh sketch of the alleged “Huawei Pura X Max” has surfaced, detailing the company's first "tablet-style" wider foldable.

Huawei Pura X Max leaked design and display specifications:

• Main display: 7.5-inch panel - like a smaller iPad mini
• Cover display: 5.3-inch panel - quite the throwback
• Cameras: Triple camera system - it’s nice to see Huawei isn’t compromising here

Following the design language of the somewhat bizarre Huawei Pura X, which essentially served as the blueprint for the “wider fold” trend, the Huawei Pura X Max can probably claim to win the originality battle with Samsung and Apple - whether it launches earlier or later.

Even if the original Pura X is technically a flip-style phone like the recently leaked Galaxy Z Flip 8, its wide 16:10 aspect ratio set the stage for this new evolution of tablet-style foldables. Of course, unless we count the original Google Pixel Fold, which wasn't quite wide enough to match what’s to come in 2026.

When it comes to the wider foldable form factor itself, fan opinions are currently split. Proponents argue the wider design vastly improves multimedia and productivity when open. However, critics point out that when closed, the width of devices like the iPhone Fold, Galaxy Wide Fold, and Pura X Max is going to require "hand gymnastics" to reach all corners.

Unfortunately, just like other Huawei phones released in the past six years, the leaked Huawei Pura X Max won’t be available in the US and won’t be shipping with Google Play services - if it makes it out of China in the first place.
