New picturesque Counter-Strike 2 map announced for April 12 release

Shawn "FMPONE" Snelling is expected to release his latest independent Counter-Strike 2 map, titled Splinter, on Sunday, April 12, 2026. A 14-second teaser video was shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, which explicitly stated the map would arrive "tomorrow." Once launched, this will be Snelling’s first independent release since Valve acquired the rights to his Cache remake last year.
The teaser footage shows an industrial setting that features a sawmill and a lot of mountain terrain. Based on the preview, Splinter appears to be a remake of the classic map de_Coaline. As per @FMPONE, the new map is based on Lake Moraine and the Canadian Rockies. The visuals in this new CS2 map seem to utilize the Source 2 engine quite well. There are a fair amount of high-fidelity textures and environmental lighting in the indoor workshop areas.
While his most famous work, Cache, is currently going through optimization and changes by Valve for an eventual return to Counter-Strike 2's Active Duty competitive pool, Splinter will be a standalone community project. Snelling has also previously indicated that after this release, he plans to complete one more map, de_Vegas, before taking up independent game development.
The map should be available as a free download via the Steam Workshop once it goes live. We can expect a lot of verticality and tight angles in this CS2 map, merely going by the past images (see below) and the new teaser. As with his previous releases, Snelling is expected to iterate on the design based on early player feedback and performance data from the Source 2 environment. You can monitor his Steam Workshop page for more updates.
