The new Metro game is expected to be dubbed "Metro 2039", as per insider Jez Corden.
Insider Jez Corden has posted "Metro 2039" on Twitter - a possible title for the next mainline Metro game. This comes after earlier leaks that reported on an upcoming reveal, likely tied to Sony’s rumored April State of Play event.

A fresh detail has just appeared around the next Metro game, and this time it’s the name. Insider Jez Corden posted "Metro 2039. Soon." on X, hinting that the upcoming title may finally have a confirmed direction. The post is as brief as it can be, but it does line up with previous reports pointing to a reveal right around the corner - potentially at Sony’s rumored April 16 State of Play.

As per the earlier leak, 4A Games is preparing to announce a new mainline Metro entry. That report described the project as a sequel to Metro Exodus, and the fourth main game in the series. The new "Metro 2039" name fits neatly in the franchise’s long-running naming pattern, where each entry ties into a timeline in some way.

The earlier titles - Metro 2033, Metro Last Light, and Metro Exodus - track events in a post-apocalyptic Russia after a nuclear war. While Last Light dropped the year from its title, the narrative still stayed on track (from 2033). Exodus then moved the timeline forward - it took the story away from Moscow into a more open, cross-country journey.

If "2039" is true, we're in for another time jump. That could mean a return to a more structured setting like the Moscow metro, or even a continuation of Exodus' broader world, but with a clearer anchor for the game's timeline. Past info already signaled a possible return to Moscow.

Previous Metro games have been consistently strong, reception-wise. Metro 2033's entire reputation is built around its atmosphere and survival mechanics. Last Light improved gunplay and storytelling. Exodus used the same formula with semi-open environments and is still one of the more visually impressive shooters of its time, especially on modern hardware.

The franchise has never really chased scale for its own sake, which is why the direction of the next game will be interesting to see. Despite the source's solid track record, this info should still be taken with a grain of salt until we have confirmation of the same.
