The Asus ROG Zephyrus G16 is a high-end and comparatively slim gaming laptop, which is also available in a multimedia version called ProArt P16. So far, the P16 was only available with the mobile RTX 5070 as the fastest GPU option, and the 2.8K OLED screen with 120 Hz was also a bit disappointing in terms of maximum brightness. The manufacturer now finally launched a faster version, and we have already reviewed the high-end SKU with the GeForce RTX 5090.
Just like the gamer ROG Zephyrus G16, the chassis of the new P16 is slightly thicker to make room for the improved vapor chamber cooling unit. The mobile high-end GPUs (RTX 5070 Ti, RTX 5080 or RTX 5090) run with a maximum TGP of 120 Watts and overall, the performance of the two siblings is basically identical. This also includes the gaming performance, even though the P16 does not support Advanced Optimus GPU switching. Compared to previous P16 models, you also benefit from more VRAM (12-24 GB depending on the GPU) when you edit pictures or videos. You also get up to 64 GB RAM, but it is unfortunately soldered and cannot be upgraded.
The second major change is the so called Lumina Pro OLED screen with 4K resolution and 120 Hz. This is a tandem OLED panel, which is also used for the Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i 16, for example. It offers excellent image quality, which does not suffer from the touch layer, either. Asus managed to improve the brightness significantly and now reaches almost 700 nits in SDR mode and up to 1600 nits in HDR mode. This means the new OLED screens caught up to Mini-LED screens. You still get very well calibrated color profiles for sRGB as well as P3. The battery runtime suffers a bit, but we are happy to make this compromise for the superior screen.
The ProArt P16 is not the best multimedia device in all areas (Yoga Pro 9i 16 has advantages in terms of color gamut, SDR brightness and PWM, for example; MacBook Pro offers more CPU performance and longer battery runtime), but as an overall package, the new ProArt P16 is hard to beat. However, Asus also charges a steep price and our high-end review configuration retails for €4,799. Please see our comprehensive review for more information on the new ProArt P16.
