NVIDIA has released SHIELD Experience 9, a new UI for its TV sticks and boxes based on Android 11. The upgrade involves a bevy of new features, support for aptX-compatible Bluetooth devices, Dolby Vision HDR and the latest Google entertainment apps included. Some users can even unlock a trial of Peacock Premium.

NVIDIA has announced the roll-out of SHIELD Experience 9, a new skin for Android 11. It unlocks new privacy controls for its streaming devices, as well as Dolby Vision HDR via a new version of the Google Play Movies & TV app.

The OEM asserts that this app is also now the ideal way to access and consume content on a compatible device. Then again, the new OS should support Apple TV's services as welll. On that note, users with new SHIELDs will be able to grab a 6-month free trial of the Peacock Premium app - so long as they are located in the US, that is.

In terms of gaming, NVIDIA SHIELD users with the GeForce NOW RTX 3080 membership on the new version of Experience have exclusive access to a 4K HDR mode, elicited by cloud streaming powered by the card in question.

This new GeForce NOW subscription can be had at a discount, albeit only to current Founders members. The software upgrade that unlocks these new options might not be based on the newest version of Android, but is available to all NVIDIA SHIELD devices, thus keeping even its inaugural variant as relevant as possible.
