Today (October 7, 2021) is a good day to launch potentially exciting, albeit 4G/LTE-only, Android smartphones...according to Motorola, at least. The Moto E40 has some things in common with its equally new cousin the G Pure, a rear-facing logo/fingerprint sensor and a 6.5-inch MaxVision display included. However, the new effective E-series flagship sets itself apart with a 90Hz refresh rate.
The E40 also upgrades to a punch-hole selfie camera rather than the G Pure's old-school waterdrop notch. It is also now confirmed to have a design all its own: its chassis might be as plastic and as IP52-rated as the other brand-new Motorola phone, yet has a novel texture made of pinstripe-thin waves. They are finished in "iconic" colors that really does include that Pink Clay shade alluded to in earlier leaks.
The Moto E40 is also now confirmed as a device with the extremely lesser-spotted Unisoc T700 SoC, with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage. The dual-SIM device has its rumored triple rear camera hump, with a "best-in-class" 48+2+2MP configuration.
Then again, the E40 does exceed expectations in one respect: its leaks had it down as a 4,000mAh smartphone; however, Flipkart has now revealed that it is in fact 5,000mAh, and is rated for up to 40 hours of use per charge. On this note, there is no mention of upgraded charging for this well-sized power-pack.
The Moto E40 now has a release date of October 12, 2021 on its new platform. However, its price remains a mystery until then. Hopefully, it will allow the new "near-stock Android 11" device to fly off shelves as (relatively) fast as the newly updated frame-rate of its screen.
