The Xiaomi Mi 10 Explorer Edition leaks out; is alleged to be genuinely transparent this time

A Chinese blog has reported that a successor to the Mi 9 Explorer Edition is in the works at Xiaomi. This variant of the flagship phone was styled so as to look as though it had a clear-glass back - however, it was achieved with a decal of sorts. Apparently, its 2020 counterpart is the real deal.

One of the most clearly emergent trends in smartphone design (or customization, rather) is (literal) transparency in their contents and how they are put together. This is apparent in the success of YouTube channels such as JerryRigEverything. In this case, it extends to teardown-related content and the host's concomitant habit of creating "clear glass" versions of some flagship smartphones.

Their popularity with viewers has even led to a new line of "post-teardown" cases and skins, made in partnership with dbrand. However, with its Explorer Editions of its Mi flagship phones, Xiaomi could say it has also been a pioneer in this arena.

The OEM has produced versions of its Mi 8 and 9 generations re-designed to take on the look in question. However, it has been a disappointment for some tech-junky fans of this line that they were in fact made using slightly embellished stickers, thus not really showing the internals of the phones in question.

MyDrivers now asserts that Xiaomi has addressed this feedback in the Mi 10 Explorer Edition. The blog claims to have gotten hold of some real-life images for this phone, reportedly leaked by the company's marketing department. They do indeed appear to show a version of the 10 with the English-language word Xiaomi embossed in white on its rear panel in place of any of its new colorways.

Therefore, the new Explorer Edition may indeed be truly see-through for a change. Then again, there is not that much to be seen besides the phone's wireless charging coil and graphite-based motherboard shield. However, it may be enough to keep component-hungry fans of the brand happy. Then again, this apparent new Mi 10 SKU lacks pricing or availability information at this time.
