The Sony Xperia 1 III could be a decent amount more expensive than its predecessor
Sony is yet to announce how much the Xperia 1 III will cost, a common theme for recent Xperia smartphone releases. Sony's Russian subsidiary has confirmed the smartphone's price in rubles though, as we reported earlier this month. Now, pricing has emerged for the Xperia 1 III in China, and it is a lot higher than what its predecessor currently costs.
According to GSMArena, the Xperia 1 III will start at CNY 8,499 (~US$1,313), which is CNY 1,000 (~US$155) more expensive than the Xperia 1 II's current price. We should stress that we cannot find out how much the Xperia 1 II launched for last year in China, but the Xperia 1 III is CNY 2,200 (~US$340) pricier than the Xperia 1 was when it arrived in 2019.
Additionally, Sony will charge CNY 9,499 (~US$1,467.75) for the 512 GB model, but JD.com has gone even higher at CNY 9,998 (US$1,545). In short, it seems that the Xperia 1 III will be an expensive smartphone. Chinese prices do not translate to US ones, but they do suggest that the new Xperia 1 has crept up in price compared to its predecessor.
