Sony Xperia Z Ultra could finally be in line for a long overdue large-screen smartphone successor
The well-known Chinese social media tech tipster ZACKBUKS has recently posted a clue about what Sony could have in mind for its next Xperia smartphone release of the year. Not long ago we reported about a hint in regard to a “new U release”, which was possibly pointing in the direction of a future Xperia Ultra smartphone. The same leaker has now simply stated “Hello, Xperia Z Ultra”.
The original Sony Xperia Z Ultra was released back in 2013 and stood out from the crowd with its incredible, and somewhat massive, display. The smartphone was considerably wider than current flagships like the Sony Xperia 1 III (92 mm/3.6 in vs. 71 mm/2.8 in), and along with featuring a Snapdragon 800 processor it was also waterproof and dustproof.
Although the Xperia Z Ultra was very well-received, it didn’t get a direct successor, with Sony following it up with devices such as the Xperia XA Ultra smartphone and Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact. So according to this particular tip, it seems that Sony could be planning on producing a new large-screen Xperia for 2021 that doesn’t have the same narrow form as many of the smartphones in the company’s present range.
