Less than six months after launching the Redmi G (2021) gaming laptop, Xiaomi looks set to refresh the laptop with a different GPU. Interestingly, though, this GPU is a worse performer than the RTX 3060 on the original model. A price revision also follows.

Xiaomi launched the Redmi G (2021) as a gaming-focused laptop back in September. The company now appears to be refreshing the laptop less than six months in, with an accompanying price tag revision.

The Redmi G (2021) debuted in two variants: one with an RTX 3050 and Core i5-11260H, and a more powerful model with an RTX 3060 and AMD Ryzen 7 5800H. While the base model remains untouched, Xiaomi is now swapping the RTX 3060 on the Ryzen 7 model for an RTX 3050 Ti.

That's a curious refresh, as while the RTX 3050 Ti is a capable card, it performs between 25% to 30% worse than the RTX 3060 it replaces on the Redmi G (2021). It's not every day you see an OEM actively refresh a product with worse-performing hardware. Thankfully, though, this downgrade comes with a logical revision of prices. The RTX 3060 had an MSRP of CNY 6,999 (US$1,100), but the refreshed model is tipped to cost CNY 6,299 (US$1,000).

While this is yet to be announced by Xiaomi, the source also provides images that look to be straight from the company, so there's little to no reason to doubt this.
