The Asus ROG Zephyrus G16 is a slim high-end gaming laptop, which is available with the most powerful graphics cards from Nvidia. Compared to bulkier gaming devices, however, the TGP is limited and the G16 cannot utilize the full potential of these powerful GPUs. Asus improved the situation with the new model and increased the maximum TGP from 120 to 135 Watts (including 20 Watts dynamic boost) in Turbo mode. While gaming, where the dynamic boost is not available due to CPU load, the power consumption is usually 115 Watts.
You can even increase the performance of the GPU even further in Manual mode with a maximum TGP of 135 Watts plus up to 25 Watts dynamic boost, which results in a total GPU power of 160 Watts and is therefore on par with the Razer Blade 16. At least in theory, because we can see this value during pure GPU workloads, but if you run benchmarks or play games, the maximum consumption will hover around 135 Watts for a short while and drop to 105-110 Watts after 20-30 seconds, which is even lower compared to Turbo mode. We performed some gaming benchmarks and compared the two modes, and almost all the test show lower results for Manual mode even though the benchmark sequences are usually pretty short. We summarized our results in the table below.
| Turbo Mode | Manual Mode | |
|---|---|---|
| Steel Nomad | 4484 Punkte | 4465 Punkte |
| Cyberpunk 2077 QHD | 83,4 fps | 86,4 fps |
| Baldurs Gate 3 QHD | 117,4 fps | 114,9 fps |
| F1 2024 QHD | 70,6 fps | 69 fps |
| Final Fantasy XV QHD | 125,6 fps | 121,3 fps |
| AC Black Flag QHD | 45 fps | 40 fps |
The cooling solution is the limitation here and even though the vapor chamber unit is already very powerful, this is simply one of the compromises you have to make for the slimmer chassis. All in all, Asus managed to improve the gaming performance of the 2026 model, but Razer's Blade 16 is still slightly ahead in this regard. We will compare the two high-end laptops more comprehensively soon, because they are more common than ever.
