The OnePlus Nord 2 will be joined by the Buds Pro on July 22, but no US release is planned
OnePlus has started teasing its next mid-range smartphone, the Nord 2. Also referred to as the Nord 2 5G by OnePlus, the device will be one of many Nord handsets that the company launches in 2021. According to Pete Lau, the Nord 2 will be a 'comprehensive upgrade' compared to the original Nord, which OnePlus launched with a Snapdragon 765G SoC.
By comprehensive upgrade, OnePlus means that it has swapped Qualcomm's chipset for a MediaTek Dimensity 1200, a 6 nm SoC with a 5G modem and ARM Cortex-A78 cores. The Dimensity 1200 has eight cores; a prime Cortex-A78 core clocked at 3.0 GHz, three more Cortex-A78 cores restricted to 2.6 GHz and four Cortex-A55 power efficiency cores that can reach 2.0 GHz. The SoC has a Mali-G77 MP9 GPU on board, too.
OnePlus has stated that it will unveil the Nord 2 on July 22. Unfortunately, t only plans to sell the device in Europe and India; no North American launch is on the cards. Instead, OnePlus will continue to sell Nord N devices in North America, such as the Nord N200 5G.
It is unclear if OnePlus plans to sell its Buds Pro in the US, though. OnePlus will reveal the Buds Pro and Nord 2 simultaneously, but it has not teased any details about the new earbuds beyond a name, for now. Presumably, the earbuds will be a more expensive alternative to the Buds and Buds Z. You can apply to test the Buds Pro, however, along with the Nord 2.
