There have been several occasions when Android OEMs accidentally sent a Tweet or two from a competing product. However, the official OnePlus India Twitter account took things to an entirely new level. It posted about the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra's 'enhanced S Pen' capabilities in a Tweet that was clearly earmarked for Samsung's Twitter feed. While the Tweet in question has been deleted, screenshots of it are already doing the rounds of the internet.
OnePlus India took the gaffe in good spirit and implored Samsung India to 'accidentally' Tweet about the upcoming OnePlus Nord 2. Samsung is yet to comment on the matter, although there isn't much it can say to begin with. The international OnePlus handle chimed in and promptly got pilloried in the comments due to the recent controversy with the OnePlus 9 series throttling commonly-used apps such as Google Chrome.
Companies often offload social media responsibilities to third parties. The incident tells us that Samsung and OnePlus use the same PR agency to handle their social media. Veteran journalist Abhishek Baxi notes that this oversight is quite egregious, as it highlights a lack of 'air gapping' and 'sanitization' between brand accounts. Although OnePlus India has claimed that the employee in question wasn't 'harmed', they're sure to get an earful soon.
