OnePlus has been making news headlines recently because of its decision to “deliver a greater user experience” by basically throttling apps and manipulating synthetic benchmark data. Possibly with the hope of sweeping the unseemly issue under the carpet, the company has posted a caption challenge for the OnePlus 9, which has unsurprisingly resulted in some less-than-complimentary suggestions. While many have simply gone for the whole performance-throttling scandal for inspiration, others have taken a different direction with their burns.
One of the simpler and more effective burns played on the company’s slogan of “never settle” with the ironic statement of “never throttle”. Another joker decided to make a comment about the Oxygen 11 operating system, while many more remained focused on what they believe could be the downfall for OnePlus. One caption given for the OnePlus 9 was the famous line from The Dark Knight: “You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain”. A little serious perhaps, but clearly a dig at the less than honest antics OnePlus has been up to.
Of course, there are plenty of devoted fans who have offered up sincere options such as “always handy, always at hand, always handsome” and the optimistic “perfection in hand” – but these saccharine efforts have been balanced out by the copious amount of messages comparing OnePlus and the OnePlus 9 to the “earthy” results of a vital bodily function. The OnePlus 9 had a starting price of US$729 but has received a timely price cut on Amazon where it can be picked up for a fraction under US$649.
