OnePlus officially reveals the Nord 2's design ahead of launch as its specs leak via Geekbench
OnePlus is stoking the hype-train for the upcoming Nord 2 5G smartphone with a steady supply of teasers revealing more and more about the device prior to its actual debut. The latest example of these posts comes courtesy of its Indian division's Twitter account.
It heroes the Nord 2 in the style of a classic movie poster, showing the phone's rear panel in its entirety. From what was known about the device previously, it might have been expected to turn out looking like its own CE sibling. However, it seems it has been styled after the flagship 9 instead.
Accordingly, it has 2 rear camera lenses that are very noticeable compared to the third. One of these enlarged apertures is slated to house a 50MP Sony IMX766 sensor, also found in OPPO's 2021 flagship phone. Otherwise, the Nord 2 is known to have a MediaTek Dimensity 1200 processor.
A device called the "OnePlus DN2103" has appeared on Geekbench 5 with this SoC, in the form of the ARM MT6893Z_A/CZA, also found in the Realme X7 Max (or RMX3031), iQOO Z3 and a pre-release Xiaomi device rumored to be called the Redmi K40 Ultra.
Therefore, this is most likely the Dimensity 1200, paired with 12GB of RAM and Android 11 in this DN2103. It has not done quite as well as most of the phones with the SoC, particularly in single-core terms. This may or may not be due to the "AI" enhancements OnePlus claims to have incorporated into the chipset for the Nord 2's purposes.
Either way, the phone is slated to launch on July 22, 2021. From its various leaks, it is now definitely shaping up to be a premium mid-ranger, and may as a result start for more than its predecessor.
