LG has started updating another of its remaining devices to Android 11, having already done so with the Velvet and the V60 ThinQ. LG has only issued the OS upgrade to Velvet LTE handsets in South Korea so far, but this is how LG tends to distribute software updates. According to a blog post, LG thinks it can send Android 11 out to all Velvet LTE models in South Korea within a fortnight.
Initially, LG has planned to issue the same upgrade to the Velvet LTE in other regions during Q3 2021. The company also markets the device as Velvet 4G, for some reason. However, LG's German release schedule now reads that the Velvet LTE will not receive Android 11 until Q4 2021. Similarly, the G8S ThinQ has slipped from Q3 to Q4, while LG has delayed Android 11 for the G8X ThinQ from Q2 to Q3. The Wing, K42 and K52 remain on track for Android 11 before the end of 2021, though.
LG has promised to upgrade several devices to Android 12 and three to Android 13, including the Velvet LTE. Based on its current and past performance, we doubt that LG will manage to get Android 12 out the door before mid-2022 and Android 13 sometime in 2023. You can read about what Android 11 brings to the Velvet LTE in LG's blog post.
