LG has a rich history of releasing new TVs with dramatic, evocative names such as Gallery and Wallpaper to draw attention to them and their cutting-edge specs. Now, it seems it is going for a similar effect with its latest trademarks.
The blog LetsGoDigital claims to have dug up a new trove of potential product names registered by the OEM with the Korean intellectual property office KIPO. Nearly all of them revolve around the word "Plate", giving rise to the new terms Smart Plate, OLED Plate, Plate Fit and Plate Big. In addition, there is one that is simply called...The Plate.
These new terms probably correspond to new, probably ultra-thin and flat, panels that might be pitched at the makers of monitors, smartphones, laptops and other display-based devices worldwide. The additional variations of this new motif hint at even more diverse use-cases; for example, the "LG Plate Fit" could well be destined for smaller form-factors (or smart home gyms, maybe).
These potential mysteries might be solved with time. In the meantime, there is another intriguing new trademark to figure out. This "One Cord OLED" might translate to a TV or monitor that can run on just one kind of input...USB type C, perhaps.
Its emergence has led to speculation that it might even be LG's answer to Samsung's OneConnect system. Then again, as these trademarking applications have only been submitted in March 2021, it may be some time before their real nature comes to light.
