Update: Tron has now posted some key specs for the LG Velvet 2 Pro that slightly differ from those offered by the Korean source mentioned below apart from the SD 888 chip: 6.8-inch FHD + OLED @120 Hz, 8 GB + 128 GB, 4,500-mAh battery. Price: US$176.
Original story:
Tech informer Tron has been offering up some interesting details about the LG Velvet 2 Pro smartphone, which is also associated with the names LG Rainbow and LG Universal 2nd Gen and has the model number LM-V700N. It appears the manufacturer wants to shift around 3,000 units of the Velvet 2 Pro as a special deal to its workers in Korea – at the stunning price of 190,000 won (US$167). According to a report out of Korea, the LG Velvet 2 Pro could have ended up with a price tag of 1,000,000 won (US$881).
There are caveats to this amazing deal though: Workers are limited to just two purchases of the LG Velvet 2 Pro each, have to accept that there will be no software updates and limited after service, and they are banned from reselling the smartphone. The Velvet 2 Pro comes in black, bronze, and beige, has a pressure-sensitive volume/power button, and it is packaged with two protective cases. At just 19% of the full price, it’s not surprising that Tron has now stated that “lots of LG employees are interested” in buying the last flagship smartphone from this South Korean OEM.
The LG Velvet 2 Pro's specs are not listed with the leaker’s information, but the Korean-language report claims a Snapdragon 888 processor is present and there are RAM options of 12 GB and 16 GB alongside storage choices of 256 GB and 512 GB. The same source also states a 6.5-inch AMOLED panel for the Velvet 2 Pro with the rear main camera system headed by a 64 MP sensor. LG is offering a lot of phone for a little price to its workers in Korea, while many fans elsewhere have been bemoaning LG’s demise in the particularly ruthless mobile industry.
