TerraMaster touts the F4-425 as ideal for those who want a practically plug-and-play new NAS with Intel x86 architecture. It is rated to support up to 36% more storage than its immediate predecessor, and features a custom TRAID array that might deploy it up to 30% more efficiently than RAID5. The F4-425 is also rated to be fully compatible with apps such as Jellyfin, Plex and Google Drive, and to support two-way "millisecond-level" syncing with personal devices via TerraSync.

TerraMaster touts the F4-425 as the ideal new 4-bay NAS for home entertainment as well as general data storage, thanks to the inclusion of "hardware-level" H.265 decoding for 4K playback from platforms such as Plex, Jellyfin or Emby as well as other uPnP/DLNA-based media-sharing solutions.

Each bay is rated to support drives of up to 30TB in size for a total capacity of up to 120TB, as opposed to 88TB in its immediate F4-424 predecessor.

That much storage can be managed by TRAID ("with 30% improved storage efficiency and full data redundancy"), hyped by TerraMaster in the past to leave a drive with up to 200% more free space compared to a comparable RAID5 array.

The 425 can also be set to use RAID0, 1, 5, 6 or 10 instead, though. It is also rated for up to 256-bit TLS encryption and CloudSync security when used with Dropbox, OneDrive or Google Drive.

It is also touted to be an ultra-quiet server that goes at 21 decibels (dB, ambient levels) at most, and boasts a "10-second" tool-free Push-Lock assembly system.

The F4-425 does have potential disadvantages too, though, the most glaring of which is that it has launched with 4GB of RAM as opposed to 8GB in the 424, with no mention of expandability.

TerraMaster does actually slate the newer model as a successor to the last-gen, ARM-based F4-212 instead - although, on that note, the 425 is powered by the basic Intel Celeron N5095 processor with which NAS solutions are often saddled in any case.

In addition, there are apparently no SSD slots in this server. It also has just 1 2.5 Gbps Ethernet port to go with its 3 USB ports, although none are type-C.

The new model is equipped with the OEM's in-house TNAS Mobile app and TerraSync for (ideally) intuitive set-up and "real-time" syncing experiences between it, devices such as PCs, Macs or smartphones and back again.

The NAS should also support quality-of-life features such as over 50 individual user accounts, automatic back-ups and AI-powered smart image album generation.

The TerraMaster F4-425 is available from now on Amazon at a price of $369.99; alternatively, the dual-bay F2-425 with all its features but half the maximum storage is listed alongside it at $249.99.

TerraMaster Launches F4-425: High-Performance 4-Bay Home NAS with Intel x86 Power, 120TB Storage, and Next-Gen Multimedia Features

The new TerraMaster F4-425 delivers a 40% performance boost over ARM-based devices, supports 4K streaming, massive 120TB storage, advanced security, and ultra-quiet operation – redefining the flagship home NAS.

SHENZHEN, China, September 17th, 2025 – TerraMaster, a leading innovator in network-attached storage (NAS) solutions, today announced the launch of the F4-425, a high-performance 4-bay home NAS designed to deliver professional-grade power and storage capabilities for households. Representing a comprehensive upgrade to the previous-generation F4-212, the F4-425 fully transitions away from ARM-based architecture in favor of a robust Intel x86 quad-core processor, delivering up to a 40% performance boost compared to ARM-powered alternatives. With its vast storage capacity, seamless multimedia capabilities, and intelligent software ecosystem, the F4-425 positions itself as the definitive choice for modern smart home data management. The TerraMaster F4-425 4-Bay NAS is available for £369.99 on Amazon UK and $369.99 on Amazon USA – Currently discounted to £332.99 / $332.99 when using the available 10% discount coupon

Powered by an Intel quad-core processor and equipped with 4GB of DDR4 memory—the F4-425 is built to handle intensive workloads such as 4K video encoding, decoding, and multitasking. Its 2.5GbE network port ensures high-speed file transfers and supports concurrent multi-user access, making data sharing and backups effortless across family members and home environments.

The F4-425 also serves as a complete home entertainment hub. Supporting hardware-level 4K H.265 decoding, it integrates seamlessly with Plex, Emby, Jellyfin, and uPnP/DLNA protocols, enabling direct streaming to smartphones, tablets, Roku, Apple TV, and smart TVs. TerraPhotos AI smart album utilizes on-device algorithms to automatically organize photos by faces, pets, and scenes, simplifying the management of vast personal media libraries.

In terms of storage and security, the F4-425 accommodates up to 120TB (4 x 30TB drives). TerraMaster’s new TRAID flexible array technology improves storage efficiency by saving up to 30% more space than traditional RAID while still maintaining data redundancy and reliability. Multi-layered protection comes through SPC security settings, 256-bit TLS encryption, TFSS snapshots, and CloudSync compatibility with leading platforms such as Google Drive, OneDrive, and Dropbox.

Ease of use is also central to the F4-425. The TNAS Mobile app allows complete setup without a PC, enabling instant backup of smartphone photos and videos along with local and remote synchronization. TerraSync further enhances productivity with millisecond-level file syncing and 32-version recovery, providing a smooth, near-local drive experience. With noise levels as low as 21dB(A), the F4-425 operates almost silently, while the Push-Lock tool-free design simplifies drive installation in just 10 seconds.

Balancing performance, storage capacity, advanced security, and quiet operation, the TerraMaster F4-425 is ideally suited for home users requiring powerful solutions for video editing, 4K media streaming, daily data storage, and intelligent file management. Offering an affordable yet high-performance alternative to ARM-based devices, it redefines expectations for flagship home NAS systems.
