TerraMaster: New network storage system with Intel CPU supports M.2 SSDs, virtualization and dual 2.5 Gbps Ethernet
TerraMaster has introduced a new NAS which comes in in two model variants: The F2-424 can hold up to two SSDs or hard drives, while the F4-424 can hold up to four storage devices. Both the 2.5 and 3.5 inch formats are supported. There is also the option of installing two M.2 2280 SSDs, which can be accessed via NVMe.
The built-in computing chip comes from Intel. The Intel N95 is definitely up-to-date, but not very powerful. 8 GB of DDR5 RAM is already preinstalled, which can be expanded up to a maximum of 32 GB of RAM via the one remaining slot. ECC memory is not supported.
According to the manufacturer, the F4-424 supports a total storage capacity of 88 TB, while the F2-424 supports 44 GB. Various RAID configurations can be utilized; the processor and the memory are cooled by an 80 millimeter fan, which reportedly only emits around 20 dBA.
Network connections are created via two Ethernet ports with up to 2.5 GBit/s each, thus conferring advantages in speed. An HDMI output is also on board, as is USB, also in Type C. This means that data from external hard drives can be easily transferred. The Linux-based TOS operating system is intended to offer numerous options for data backup and user management, but also for streaming media content. Docker is supported.
The TerraMaster F2-424 is listed directly by the manufacturer for a price of $379.99.
