F4-424 Pro: New NAS launches with powerful Intel processor, fast network connection and supports virtualization
Not long ago, we reported on the both the TerraMaster F2-424 and F4-424. Now, the manufacturer has followed up with the F4-424 Pro, with the suffix 'Pro' setting the tone: the model offers higher computing power. Specifically, an Intel Core i3 processor is installed, although it is unclear exactly which model is used. In any case, it is likely to have eight computing cores and support a maximum clock frequency of 3.8 GHz.
The increased computing power can be utilized for (better) virtualization. VirtualBox and Docker are supported, for example. Up to 32 GB of RAM is possible, although only non-ECC DDR5 RAM can be installed. The installed RAM makes full use of the size limitation and measures 32 GB in a single slot.
The installation of four mass storage devices is possible. The four mounting locations accommodate both 3.5-inch and 2.5-inch storage, and both hard drives and SSDs are supported. There are also two M.2 2280 slots, which are connected via NVMe and thus PCIe. The 220 x 179 x 154 millimeter NAS system is cooled by a single fan and the noise level in standby mode with two hard drives is said to be 21 dB.
Network connections are established via two Gigabit ports with a speed of 2.5 Gigabit/s each. Two USB 3.2 ports with a maximum data transfer rate of 10 Gigabit/s each are also available, as well as one HDMI 2.1 port.
The F4-424 Pro is now available directly from the manufacturer at a price of $699.99.
