Jonsbo N4: Stylish enclosure for a DIY NAS and dedicated GPU support

Nowadays, network-attached storage (NAS) devices are aplenty and can be purchased from major manufacturers at relatively affordable prices. The ultimate advantage of these is that customers only have to install the hard drives and can get started right away. Thanks to OTA updates, installing an operating system and maintenance is often not necessary, which is also a win for security. A DIY NAS is undoubtedly more complex to configure, but it also allows you to better customize it to your own needs.

The N4, recently presented by Jonsbo in two color variants, is a new enclosure that is specifically aimed at users who want to create their own network storage. With dimensions of 286 x 300 x 228 millimeters, the model is relatively compact and, thanks to its stylish design, should fit well into a living room. An ITX or M-ATX mainboard can be installed, which in turn allows for the installation of powerful processors. There is a restriction in regard to the power supply: only a power supply in SFX format and with a length of up to 125 millimeters can be used.

The use of graphics cards or other expansion cards is fundamentally possible, with four PCIe slots available. The length of the graphics card is limited to 230 millimeters, while the CPU cooler can be 70 millimeters high. The installation of two mass storage devices in 2.5-inch format is also possible, plus space for six 3.5-inch hard disks. These are easily accessible via a cover and, as is typical for network storage, can be replaced quite easily.
