Switch 2 continues to be Nintendo’s fastest selling console, but price hike looms

According to Nintendo's latest financial results, the Switch 2 has now surpassed 23 million units shipped worldwide, maintaining its position as the company's fastest-selling console. However, only 3.82 million units were sold in the April-June quarter, a 34.4% drop compared to the same period last year when the console launched, an outcome Nintendo attributes to the expected slowdown following strong early demand. 

Despite the year-over-year decline, Nintendo describes its Switch 2 sales as "solid", noting that the console's adoption rate continues to outpace that of the original Switch at the same stage of its lifecycle. The company further states that demand remains healthy across key markets, pointing to continued software sales as another positive indicator. Sustained hardware momentum, however, will naturally depend on software releases, pricing and broader market conditions in the coming years.

Nintendo is maintaining its forecast of 16.5 million Switch 2 units for the fiscal year. But a further complication looms: the console's US price is set to rise from $450 to $500 on September 1, 2026, which could weigh on sales in subsequent quarters.
