Steam continues to prove why it is the largest video game storefront in the world, and new numbers show that its growth is not slowing down. Every year, Valve’s platform attracts more players, more developers, and more spending. And according to recent data, December 2025 was Steam’s most successful month ever.
In its latest newsletter, Alinea Analytics reported that Steam generated $1.6 billion in gross revenue in December 2025. That revenue came from over 100 million players, making it the highest-grossing month in Steam’s history.
The growth is significant when compared to previous years. December 2025 revenue was 22.7% higher than December 2024, showing strong year-over-year growth. It also surpassed December 2020, which generated around $1.4 billion during the pandemic, a period when game spending was unusually high.
Alinea Analytics also shared details on which games contributed the most to Steam’s holiday success. ARC Raiders stood out as one of the biggest performers. It was the best-selling game on Steam during the final two weeks of the year, with 1.2 million copies sold. Overall, across all platforms, the game has sold 12 million copies, with 7 million of those sold on Steam alone.
Despite being the top-selling title by volume, ARC Raiders ranked second by revenue on Steam during that two-week period. It generated around $32 million in sales, which is still a massive number. The top spot in terms of revenue went to Counter-Strike 2, not unexpectedly.
Several other games also performed very well during the holiday period from December 21 to January 5, mainly due to solid discounts. Detroit: Become Human sold around 993,000 copies after its price dropped to just $4. PEAK also performed well, selling 779,000 copies during the same period and pushing its total Steam sales past 16 million copies. Icarus also dropped from $35 to $3, which helped it sell 735,000 copies. Battlefield 6 did very well, too, selling around 706,000 copies thanks to a 30% discount.
