The highly anticipated sequel to the indie hit Hollow Knight had a huge launch and is showing no signs of slowing down. The game currently has over 80,000 Very Positive reviews on Steam, showing just how much players are enjoying it. And according to new data shared by Alinea Analytics in its latest report, Silksong has now sold over 6 million copies since it came out.
Alinea Analytics pointed out that September was a busy month filled with major AAA releases, yet Silksong still managed to stand out in a big way.
“AAA has dominated September’s download list, but the long wait for Silksong planted an indie flag on the September top 5. The Hollow Knight sequel easily amassed over 6 million downloads in the last three weeks of last month.”
This means that even with massive titles hitting the market, like Borderlands 4 and Dying Light: The Beast, Silksong was able to hold its ground and become one of the top 5 most downloaded games of September. For a small indie studio like Team Cherry, that’s a big achievement.
The report also shared details about where these sales came from. Steam alone accounted for 4 million downloads, making PC the largest platform for Silksong. The remaining sales came from consoles, with Xbox tripling PlayStation’s download numbers thanks to the game’s inclusion on Xbox Game Pass. If you look at the data on other sites (as shown on SteamDB), PlayTracker estimates that over 5.8 million copies have been sold on Steam alone, while VG Insights estimates the game has sold over 6.65 million copies on Steam. These two are estimates and not 100% accurate, but if we combine all platforms, it's safe to say that the number is above 6 million.
The report didn’t just focus on Silksong, as it also highlighted how other major games are performing. EA FC 26 continues to dominate the market with over 9 million copies sold, while NBA 2K26 is doing well too, reaching 3.5 million copies sold. Close behind is Borderlands 4, which has managed to sell 3.1 million copies so far.
