Indie mega-hit Metroidvania sequel Silksong gets a clean, cross-platform sale with one glaring exception.

Fans of indie Metroidvania titles like Hollow Knight or Axiom Verge may be enthused to know that this year's Hollow Knight: Silksong is finally on sale for 20% off—everywhere. The Steam-crashing Silksong costs just $15.99 on PC's Humble Bundle, Steam, and DRM free GOG. Its listings on the PlayStation Store and Nintendo eShop are similarly set to $15.99, but since the PC sales are all set to end on January 5th, console players will likely lose the discount then, too. The sale is well-timed, too, with Sea of Sorrow recently announced for a free drop next year.

Strangely, though, one specific kind of user does not get to enjoy this festive Silksong sale, and it's Xbox users. On Microsoft and Xbox Store, Silksong is still full price at $19.99 USD. Xbox console users are still looking at a full price tag for one of 2025's biggest indie hits. I can't be sure why Xbox is specifically being snubbed here—whether the developers at Team Cherry chose to do this to offset the lost sales from the game's inclusion in PC Game Pass & Game Pass Ultimate, or Microsoft just refused to allow it for whatever reason, it's unclear.

The ever-continuing punishment of Xbox console owners for buying an Xbox aside, Silksong is a highly-praised game regardless of what platform you get it on, and scales very well to those platforms despite being a 2D game. Last-gen consoles like Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One will only play the game at 1080p and 60 FPS. Current-gen consoles like Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5 (and Pro) and Xbox Series S/X can all play the game at 120 FPS, 4K, or both. For those who haven't played a high-precision 2D action game at 120 Hz yet, Silksong is a gorgeously smooth visual treat. And of course, PC players have no FPS limit to worry about besides their monitor's own refresh rate.

For a game that already launched so cheap at just $20 earlier this year, and to near-universal critical acclaim for all but its brutal difficulty, it's quite nice to see a discount this early on. While it still may not be enough to stir users desperate for a sub-$15 price, players of it and the original Hollow Knight can verify that these games are worth the price of entry.
