Untold Story has launched on Steam as a free-to-play RPGMaker title built around turn-based combat and heavy questing. With familiar systems, non-missable content, and no reviews yet, its long-term pull will greatly depend on writing and pacing.

Untold Story has officially launched on Steam as a free-to-play, single-player RPG, with an extremely traditional turn-based experience built using RPGMaker. The game is developed and published by Meowsticks Games and is now available worldwide on PC.

Untold Story is a story-driven, party-based RPG. Players follow the journey of Rover Wilson, a character unexpectedly transported away from home, who sets out to reunite with lost friends while uncovering a broader threat tied directly to the game’s fantasy world. The narrative-driven structure depends heavily on dialogue, exploration, and quest progression, instead of real-time action.

The Steam description states that combat is fully turn-based and revolves around managing energy for skills and party actions. Battles are designed around planning instead of speed. Players are required to balance resource use across encounters. The game supports a full party system, which should let multiple characters participate in fights with defined roles and abilities.

Exploration and side content appear to be a major point of focus for the game. According to the Steam listing, Untold Story includes close to 200 quests, alongside a large number of collectibles and NPC interactions. The developer states that quests and collectibles are non-missable, meaning players can return to unfinished content at any point before the final act without being locked out by story progression.

Visually, the game uses a classic 2D pixel-art style which is very typical of RPGMaker projects, alongside a top-down perspective and menu-driven interface. That’s not inherently a flaw, but it does place the game firmly in a crowded space where presentation alone won’t carry interest. The burden falls on writing, pacing, and encounter design to keep players engaged, and eventually fuel the probable success of the game.

At launch, Untold Story supports English language text and interface only. As a newly released free-to-play title, it currently has absolutely no user review data on Steam, so it's difficult to gauge its reception.

As a free-to-play release, Untold Story asks for little more than time, which should make it easy to sample. Whether it earns long-term attention will likely depend on how well its storytelling and quest design distinguish itself from the familiar "RPG" framework. You can check it out here.
