Sony pitched its inaugural Airpeak S1 drone as the most compact way to get a full-sized mirrorless alpha-series unit (with certain lenses attached) airborne. It is also rated to propel the camera in question through the complicated angles or flight-paths necessary to get that ideal industry-grade shot.
The Airpeak S1 should also fly smoothly against wind and around obstacles, and also supports dual pilot signals for separate camera and gimbal control. Then again, the custom-designed gimbal in question (the T3 made by Gremsy) is a separate purchase.
The Sony Airpeak S1 will cost US$9,000 on its own. For this price, the buyer also gets a remote controller, 2 pairs of propellers, 2 batteries and their charger. It also comes supporting the Airpeak Flight app for smartphone-bound control, although it will only work on iOS on release.
The Airpeak S1 (or ARS-S1) is up for pre-order from retailers such as Adorama and B&H from now, and is slated to ship on or around December 24, 2021.
