Sony’s handling of its Xperia line has already raised some concerns in the fanbase, as the lineup has been drastically whittled down over the last few years. However, it appears there will at least be a Sony Xperia 10 VII joining the Sony Xperia 1 VII in 2025. While a considerable amount of Xperia-related leaks spring from unreliable sources, this one comes from a known tipster from the Esato forum. Although the Xperia 10 VII isn’t specifically named in the relevant post, the words “new mid range” certainly point to this device.
According to the tipster, spektykles, the Xperia 10 VII will come with a 120 Hz OLED panel. The predecessor Xperia 10 VI (currently available on Amazon) also has an OLED panel, but this only offers a 60 Hz refresh rate. The older model does have a 120 Hz touch-scanning rate, but it is more likely that the source was talking about the screen refresh rate in this instance. In addition, it is mentioned that “a new one” is coming in regard to the 2025 midrange Xperia’s processor and that Sony won’t just recycle the previous SoC that had been used, which was the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 1.
While some have speculated this will mean the Sony Xperia 10 VII will come with the latest 6-series chip from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4, this could actually be an area where Sony throws a curveball – and not necessarily the best one. The Xperia 10 VI was announced in May 2024, whereas its Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 SoC was released in September 2022. Qualcomm skipped launching a Snapdragon 6 Gen 2 chip and instead revealed the Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 in June 2024. With the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 only having been launched in February 2025, Sony might have already eyed up the Gen 3 predecessor for its Xperia 10 VII, but it will still be an improvement over the SoC in the 2024 Xperia 10 model.
