Deal | Shooter classic with 94% positive reviews now just $2.50 on Steam

There are some big names behind Max Payne 2: the game was developed by Remedy Entertainment, the studio behind Alan Wake and Control, while Rockstar Games served as publisher. The third-person shooter originally launched in October 2003 and normally costs around $10 on Steam. Thanks to the current 75% discount, however, the price drops to $2.49 until April 23. According to SteamDB, the current deal matches the game’s previous all-time low, last reached in March. The classic has never been cheaper on Steam.
Players step into the role of Max Payne and are thrown into a dark, film noir-inspired New York shaped by corruption and violence. At the heart of the game is linear third-person action with a strong emphasis on story, atmosphere and Bullet Time. These slow-motion shootouts remain one of the series’ defining trademarks to this day: Max dives into firefights, dodges bullets and takes down enemies in stylized combat sequences. The structure stays tightly focused on the single-player campaign, with no open-world distractions or multiplayer modes.

More than 20 years after its release, Max Payne 2 is regarded as a true classic. At the time, German outlet PC Games awarded the shooter a strong 9 out of 10, praising in particular its spectacular gunfights, dark atmosphere and gripping story. Criticism focused mainly on the occasionally steep difficulty and the relatively short playtime of around 8 to 10 hours.
On Metacritic, the title holds a Metascore of 86 and a User Score of 8.8. The Steam community is even more positive: 94% of more than 13,800 user reviews are favorable. Max Payne 2 is rated “Playable” on Steam Deck.
