Deal | From the makers of Hades: Highly rated ARPG is almost free on Steam

Supergiant Games is best known for Hades, widely regarded as one of the best roguelites of recent years. Long before that breakthrough, however, the studio had already released several other titles. Its very first game was Bastion, an action RPG from 2011 that is especially memorable for its narrator, who reacts to almost everything the player does. While the game did not reach the same commercial heights, it remains highly regarded by players. Bastion is currently available on Steam for $2.24 instead of $14.99 thanks to an 85% discount. According to SteamDB, it has never been cheaper.
The story centers on the mysterious Calamity, a surreal catastrophe that has torn the world apart. Players take on the role of the Kid, who fights through the ruins of the shattered world and gradually uncovers what actually happened. The story is told almost entirely through the narrator’s voice, which constantly comments on the action.

In gameplay terms, Bastion is a faster and more dynamic action RPG than it may initially seem. Combat offers a solid selection of weapons that can be upgraded and adapted to different playstyles. Simply hacking away at enemies is rarely effective. Instead, the game rewards precise timing and well-judged dodges. Bastion also delivers plenty of atmosphere. Although its world is colorful, it is also tinged with melancholy – and already hints at the style Supergiant would later refine in Hades.
Bastion also enjoys exceptionally strong user reviews on Steam, with 95% positive ratings from more than 37,000 reviews. German gaming magazine GameStar took a somewhat more critical view, awarding the game 82 out of 100 points. The criticism focused mainly on its relatively shallow RPG elements and limited long-term appeal. While Bastion does include a New Game Plus mode, GameStar argued that it adds little in terms of fresh gameplay. At a price of under $2.50, however, that is likely easy to forgive. The game is also a viable option for Steam Deck users. On Steam, the title is listed as “Playable” on the handheld.
