Wishlisted by more than 250,000 players – promising Steam title launches next month

The demo for Romestead already drew significant attention back in February, likely because of its unusual gameplay loop. During the day, the RPG plays like a classic cozy game focused on gathering resources, expanding your settlement and improving production. At night, however, the tone shifts: the game turns into a survival experience in which players must defend their base against waves of undead.
The title is set in a post-apocalyptic version of the Roman Empire. Instead of thriving cities and prosperous provinces, players explore a world of ruins and regions overrun by wandering husks. Defense is not limited to building fortifications – players also fight with sword and shield. Romestead features a real-time combat system. RPG mechanics such as equipment, skill points and buffs – referred to as “gifts of the gods” – add further depth.

The concept appears to be well received so far. According to the developers, the game has already been added to more than 250,000 wishlists. The Early Access release date is now set for May 26, when it will become clear whether the title can live up to expectations. For developer Beartwings, this launch is particularly important, as Romestead marks the studio’s debut. Steam Deck compatibility is currently listed as “Unknown”. However, given the relatively low system requirements – an Intel Core i5 and 8 GB of RAM – the game should run on modern gaming handhelds.
