Deal | $0 instead of $20: In this tactics game, you defend your own dungeon against heroes

Legend of Keepers puts a clever spin on the classic dungeon-crawler concept. Rather than exploring dark corridors as a heroic adventurer, you take on the role of the dungeon master, building defenses and trying to stop incoming heroes in their tracks. That reversal alone gives the game a distinct appeal, especially for players looking for a fresh take on familiar genre conventions. Normally priced at around $20 on Steam, the game is currently free. The offer applies only to the base game, however. Three DLC packs are available for $5 each, while a supporter pack costs $8.19. Anyone interested in the complete package will still need to spend a little extra, though the add-on content is currently discounted by 50%.
In terms of gameplay, Legend of Keepers blends tactical strategy with roguelike elements. Before each round, players assess the incoming groups of heroes and prepare their dungeon accordingly, placing traps, monsters and special abilities to slow them down or wipe them out. Traps trigger automatically, while monster encounters are handled in turn-based battles in which the dungeon master takes direct control of the creature involved. Between runs, players can upgrade their dungeon master and unlock additional monsters and traps. After the main story, an endless mode becomes available.

Legend of Keepers, which was both developed and published by Goblinz, does not have much of a story, which appears to be the main reason for its somewhat mixed reception.. On Steam Deck, it is listed as “Playable”, although player reports suggest that the controls can feel a bit awkward on portable devices. On Steam, roughly 78% of around 4,700 user reviews are positive. The picture is similar on Metacritic, where the title holds a Metascore of 75 and a User Score of 6.8. Even so, the gameplay itself tends to be viewed positively. Players in particular praise the accessible but still rewarding tactical systems, the humorous presentation and the added variety provided by the game’s three playable dungeon masters.
