Seiko launches 4 new Selection S chronographs with sapphire crystals, including an all-black variant

Seiko has officially announced the expansion of its Selection S Series with four new chronograph references: the SBPY181 (brown dial), SBPY183 (blue dial), SBPY185 (black dial), and SBPY187 (all-black hard coating). These models share a standardized 42.2 mm stainless steel case with a 12.2 mm thickness and a 48.3 mm lug-to-lug distance. The collection is essentially a technical refresh of the S Series catalog, since it uses higher-tier material specifications, which brings these models into the entry-to-mid-range segment.
The core hardware is the Seiko V175 solar-quartz caliber, which keeps an accuracy of ±15 seconds per month and gets users a six-month power reserve on a full charge. The movement features a 60-minute chronograph (1/5-second increments), a 24-hour sub-dial, and a date display at the 4:30 position. Seiko has also equipped these models with sapphire crystals featuring a "super clear" anti-reflective coating, which is typically used in more expensive Prospex lines for better visibility.
The SBPY187 is the most premium model in this series. It features a full black hard coating on the case and bracelet, which gets you increased surface scratch resistance. All four models are JIS Type 1 antimagnetic resistant and use LumiBrite for low-light indexing. While these units are mechanically identical to the earlier SBPY167, they score new dial textures (and hopefully updated availability) for the 2026 season. Pricing isn't disclosed as of writing, but they will be available starting March 26 this year.
