Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra to do without latest 200MP ISOCELL sensor in 2025
According to the leaker @Tech_Reve, the Samsung ISOCELL GN6 will launch in the near future as the OEM's latest camera sensor for smartphones with the on-trend 50MP resolution. However, unlike its immediate predecessor, it is tipped to finally catch up to the Sony IMX989 with that coveted, top-ranking 1-inch footprint.
Then again, it is thought to have pixels of 1.6 microns (μm) in size, whereas those of the GN5 went down to 1.0μm. Nevertheless, the GN6 might be joined on Samsung production lines by the ISOCELL HP7, a new 200MP sensor with 0.6μm pixels, from the second half of 2024 (2H2024).
Both high-end sensors may be dwarfed by the HU1: their allegedly upcoming ISOCELL sibling rumored to break new ground with a cutting-edge 440MP spec. It might be destined for applications such as automotive cameras, however.
The other two rumored ISOCELL upgrades, on the other hand, might be destined for devices such as smartphones of the next-gen Vivo X or Redmi Note series, as Samsung has reportedly "cancelled" plans to integrate them in its own Galaxy S flagships: for example, even the Galaxy S25 Ultra is projected to miss out on the HP7 due to the detrimental effect on that future flagship's bill of materials.
