According to the latest sales ranking by Counterpoint Research, the Apple iPhone 15 is the top-selling smartphone of 2024, followed by the iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 15 Pro. It should come as no surprise that the iPhone 16 series is ranked lower than the iPhone 15 range, considering the latest iPhone lineup only launched in late September and thus was sold for just three months last year.
Much like in 2023, no other companies besides Apple and Samsung made it into the top 10 this year. However, Samsung did perform better in this year’s ranking. Whilst the company only took places eighth to tenth in 2023 (with their budget entry-level offerings to boot), the 5G and 4G variants of the Samsung Galaxy A15 managed to rank fourth and sixth in 2024, respectively, followed by the Galaxy S24 Ultra (approx. $897 on Amazon) at seventh on the chart.
Surprisingly, despite being the priciest in the series, the iPhone 16 Pro Max is still the most popular amongst the four iPhone 16 models. Counterpoint Research said that “Pro” iPhones outsold the base models for the very first time in 2024. The analysts attributed the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s popularity to AI features, highlighting that tools such as Circle to Search and Live Translate have likely piqued the interest of consumers. On the other hand, the entry-level Galaxy A15 series is said to have benefited from increased popularity in North America, driven in part by attractive promotional discounts.
